Superb & rare Arts & Crafts carved oak exhibition adjustable easel by Arthur Simpson of Kendal; c1899.

Beautiful carved  "hearts" and carved motto; “We Live in Deeds not Years” from a poem by the English poet, Philip James Bailey.

Most probably a one-off exhibition piece.
Similar can be seen in an archive image of his first floor showroom
(ref The Simpsons of Kendal by Eleanor Davidson, fig 11).

Exhibited in the 1899 Arts & Crafts Exhibition; Furniture Section
where it was illustrated in the Building News of October 1899
alongside other pieces submitted by Simpson. (see last image).

Approx 55.75" high, 24" wide at top, 28" wide at base, 24" depth when open.
