Rare Cotswold School William Letheren iron candlesticks

An unusual, superb and extremely rare pair of Costwold School patinated iron candlesticks with a nice clamping design and punched decorative work; late 19thC.
By the Art & Decorative Ironworker, William Letheren (1836~1910) of Cheltenham (stamped marks).
Letheren was considered and described as the greatest Art Metal Ironworker in England of his time.

He established the Vulcan Works in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire and in 1865 he won a competition of the Society of Arts Workmanship. In 1866 he won another competition by the Society and the winning panel was acquired by the Victoria and Albert Museum (see link below). He retired in the early 1900's.

Approx 14" tall.

A single wrought & polished iron candlestick (possibly one of this pair) was exhibited at The Internation Health Exhibition in London 1884 (exhibit 559) by William Clowes & Sons, in conjunction with the Council of Society Of Arts; amongst other items by him.
