A powerful stylised Dutch early 20thC depiction of a famous theatrical character (Jean ????? under research) by the slightly eccentric Dutch artist, Alex de Haas (also known as "Kru")

Imagery reminiscent of Japanese woodblock prints.

Approx 15" high, 12" wide inc frame; visible area approx 8" high, 6.5" wide.

Alexander de Haas (born Alexander Nederveen); the son of the comedian Nico de Haas, born in 1896 in Rotterdam. He was a cabaret performer, lyricist-composer, cabaret historian, painter and art collector, he acquired fame in the world of variety.
Also wrote songs for Dutch film scores.
He later published a collection of songs and books cabaret greats as Edward and Jacob Koos Speenhoff.
