Extremely rare original book cover drawing design in pencil by May Morris (1862-1938), daughter of William Morris, for the book, Light of Asia by Edwin Arnold c1900. Newly framed and mounted. Annotated to back (see image).
Provenance: originally the property of one of the ex-Head of Drawings Dept at the V&A; thence by descent.
Similar was exhibited at the May Morris exhibition at William Morris Gallery in London in 1989 - their catalogue illus pl 9 and page 9 exhibit 39 (design for book cover Love is Enough) and others, held at the Ashmoleum Musuem in Oxford.
Approx 15" wide by 12 high" inc frame. Visible area approx 11" by 8".
