Rare Shapland & Petter Baillie Scott bookcase

Code: 10442

A rare example of an oak and inlaid dwarf bookcase cabinet by noted Barnstaple maker, Shapland & Petter (fully marked) with an inlaid daffodil panel after Mackay Hugh Baillie-Scott and typical geometric chevron inlay to edges and square cut-outs to sides. Nice exposed dovetail joints to top, very much in the best traditions of arts & crafts construction. Circa 1900. Very much in the Scottish style. Can be free standing or hanging. A truly stunning and rare piece - first time I have seen with this daffodil inlay rather than the ones with the stylised Baille Scott style inlaid star motifs (see the other mahogany version I have had in the past). The use of the daffodil on Shapland & Petter pieces is rare - only known on this bookcase and a smoker`s cabinet. These dwarf bookcases used to be (incorrectly) attributed to the maker John P White of Bedford for whom Baille Scott designed. Approx 32" high by 20" wide by 7" deep. This is the actual cabinet that is illustrated in the new book on Shapland & Petter by Daryl Bennett page 102.
