Another fine example of an oak Arts & Crafts “motto” open bookcase by Shapland & Petter of Barnstaple in Devon; this one with a repousse copper panel that reads, “The Sweet Serenity of Books”, The quotation comes from Morituri Salutamus; “The love of learning - The sequestered books and all the sweet serenity of books” by the poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882).
