Superb & rare oak framed Arts & Crafts bronze plaque by/after Sir William Goscombe John RA (1860-1952): a Crouching Nude.
Approx 14" by 9.5"; signed with his initials upper left and dated 1894.

Goscombe John was born in Cardiff, the son of a woodcarver. He studied with his father at Cardiff Castle under the direction of architect William Burges. In 1882, came to London as assistant in Thomas Nicholls Lambeth workshop. Studied at Lambeth School of Art and then then went on to R. A . Schools and won the Gold Medal and Travelling Scholarship in 1889. He worked under Rodin in Paris during 1890-91 and received an honourable mention at Paris Salon, 1892, and Gold Medal, 1901.
Member of the Art Workers Guild 1899. Received knighthood 1911.
