JP White Pyghtle motto garden seat

A white painted, weathered finish (originally was available both painted and un-painted) garden seat by John P White of The Pyghtle Works, Bedford, c1905, this design known as “The Chiltern”, available with the following verse incised on the back rail; taken from the poem “God’s Garden” by the English poet and hymn writer, Dorothy Frances Blomfield Gurney (1858-1932):

“The kiss of the sun for pardon
The song of the birds for mirth
One is nearer God’s heart in a garden
Than anywhere else on earth”

Aside from making garden furniture and ornaments, John P White were also responsible for executing some of 
Mackay Hugh Baillie Scott’s best furniture designs.
