An extremely stylish Arts & Crafts four panel folding screen with embossed polychrome “leather” panels to each top section depicting galleons at sea.
Attributed to the interior designer Owen Davies, who amongst other things, published in 1895 “Art & Work”, which shows similar wallpaper designs for James Toleman of 17 Goswell Rd, London.
Other similar designs are to be seen as a frieze in C H Brannam’s Lichfield St Pottery in Barnstaple. Indeed Davies also designed for Brannam (whose wares were retailed at Liberty & Co at the time). c1895. Very much in the manner of Aymer Vallance.
Some minor damage/tears to the lower half.
