A rare example of a classic William Birch of High Wycombe mahogany armchair designed by their top man EG Punnett and made specially for Liberty & Co.

Illustrated in the William Birch catalogue archives and shown as Liberty No 5 armchair as well as William Birch No. 944. Large stylised heart shaped cut-out to back, vertical slats to sides, the ends terminating in capped uprights, the whole on sled type feet. Upholstered back and removable seat cushion. Circa 1901.
