Bath Cabinet Makers Cotswold dining suite

A superb quality dining room suite, designed c1920’s, by the artist and furniture designer, Herbert Davis Richter (1874-1955) and made by the Bath Cabinet Makers; comprising an extending draw-leaf table, sideboard and six chairs.

Bath Cabinet Makers were highly regarded makers of their time, producing some very high quality pieces.
The suite is in light mahogany and each of the pieces is further inlaid with highly decorative veneers of walnut, satinwood and olive, The sideboard, with four doors and two drawers below with “ivorene/bakelite” type knobs and Cotswold School style chip edged carving to top.
The table with matching decorative veneers, H stretcher base on rounded tapering feet and incised double line decoration to match that of the sideboard. The chairs with pegged construction and similar chip edge carving to uprights; very much in the Cotswold School manner.
A similar suite (with only four single chairs) and no chip edge carving to chair uprights, was exhibited at the Liberty Arts & Crafts Selling Exhibition in 2004. A similar single armchair (also without the chip edge carving) was shown in the Sotheby’s “ Best Of British ” Paul Reeves Selling Exhibition in March 2008.
