George Walton Glasgow Style caquetoire armchair

An oak framed, original rush back & seat Arts & Crafts armchair designed by the Glasgow
architect designer, George Walton (1867-1933). 
The back and arms supported on swollen cylindrical supports above corresponding rush seat on turned and blocked tapering legs,
linked by stretchers and raised on flattened bun feet.
These chairs (singles and armchairs) were made for John Rowntree`s cafe in Scarborough.
It was Walton’s development of a new style of furniture based on the earlier French
17thC “ caquetoire” or “ caqueteuse” style, otherwise known as “conversation chairs”.
