A rare set of Arts & Crafts brass and copper firetools/fire-irons by WAS Benson & Co (unmarked as these tend to be), c1895, comprising shovel, poker and tongs.
A set like this is in the collection of the Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustrimuseum in Norway and is illustrated in their catalogue of British Decorative Arts of the Late Nineteenth Century, page 100. Their set was originally bought from the famous Maison Bing store in Paris in 1896; they stocked many examples of Benson lighting and metalware.
Also illustrated in Plate 32 of Benson & Co catalogue of 1899-1900, a facsimile of which is illustrated in the recent WAS Benson book published by the Antique Collectors Club.
