Superb and rare example of a Cotswold School walnut with ebony and boxwood stringing piano stool with lift up lid/storage area. Superb quality chamfering and detail thoroughout. Circa 1930s. By Frances Albert Hunt (1893-1980) who worked with Peter Waals at Chalford.
Bert Hunt (as he was known) originally joined as an apprentice at the Ernest Gimson workshops around 1907/09 until the 1914-18 war. He returned to Daneway in 1919 and later joined Peter Waals at Chalford, where Waals set up his own workshop. His colleagues included Harry Davoll and Ernest Smith. Bert Hunt was still connected with Chalford when Waals died in 1936.
Provenance: Francis Albert Hunt thence family by descent.
