A really charming framed pair of late 19thC original Arts & Crafts illuminated set of drawings in pen, ink and watercolour with gilt highlights.
Very much in the Pre-Raphaelite style.
These appear to have been made for a book, probably only privately published, as the original staple marks are there. But we can find no public record of the book to date.
Based on the work of the American romantic poet, critic & diplomat, James Russell Lowell (1819-1891); " The Singing Leaves".
Beautiful strong colours remain. The drawings are on both sides of each double page spread.
Artist as yet unknown.
Each approx 11" by 24" inc the frame.
