A charming original early 20thC pen & ink watercolour of dancing frolicking maidens, by the noted " Glasgow Girl" artist, Elizabeth Mary Watt (1886-1954);  signed and dated for 1919. Housed in what appears to be it`s original thin ebonised frame by the Glasgow framers George Porteous (Arts) Ltd.
EMW was one of the original famous Glasgow Girls and very much part of the important Scottish Arts & Crafts Movement.
She was born in Dundee in 1886 and studied at the Glasgow School of Art from 1906 until 1917 and, being a noted ceramicist, also taught ceramics there. She painted portraits, still life and fairy/pixie themes popular at the time. She exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts.
Examples of her work are held at Glasgow Museums.
