A very good example of an Arts & Crafts Art Nouveau copper and brass extending standard lamp by William Arthur Smith Benson; c1890s.
Much more interesting than some of his plainer designs,
with the stylised copper leaves to top
and the muscular arched gothic style base terminating in paw feet.
Originally an oil lamp but has been very sympathetically converted to electricity several years ago.
Overall height approx 67" unextended.
