A rare Cotswold School oak convertible dining  table/settle by Edward Barnsley (1900-1987);   the rectangular top on pairs of square section legs and bracket feet, united by a seat, with central hinged lid enclosing compartment, flanked by hinged end flaps;   c1930’s.
Provenance: Miles Tomalin; thence by descent.

Tomalin, a poet & documentary scriptwriter, met Edward Barnsley during the 1920`s, when he had moved to Hampshire. At that time, Edward Barnsley let Tomalin and his wife live in a cottage attached to his property which had previously been the home of the poet, Edward Thomas. The convertible table/settle is listed in the job books & client register at the Barnsleyworkshop and was given to Tomalin whilst at the cottage.
