Almost certainly one of only four made of this early original protoype double heart design oak, tall back Arts & Crafts chair.

Made for his client, W Ward Higgs' London residence; c1898
Full plan drawings exist held at the RIBA Victoria & Albert Museum archives.
This differs from later adaptations of this chair; with the later ones being made in larger numbers.
And it's the later models that are the ones held at various museums and institutions wordwide.
This much rarer version has a trapezoid shaped seat, angled/raked back and plain lower straight stretchers; a much more interesting and pleasing design!
