Lovely pair of small oak "gossip"/low fireside chairs (sometimes mistakenly referred to as children's chairs due to size!)
by the great Scottish architect designer; Sir Robert Lorimer; c1905
Sir Robert Lorimer reputedly was fond of giving them as Christening presents, hence probably the association with children!
The chairs were made by the firm of William Wheeler of Arncroach in Scotland, a village near where Lorimer lived (Fife at Kellie Castle)
Reference: Scottish Houses and Gardens from the Archives of Country Life by Ian Gow (Aurum Press 1997) pages 50 & 51,
where a pair of these chairs can be seen in the drawing room at Kellie Castle c1906.
Approx 30.5" overall height; 12" height to seats.
