A rare wrought iron, steel and copper, Arts & Crafts extendable standard lamp c1900; probably made by Thomas Elsley or W Bainbridge Reynolds, to a design strongly attributable to, the British architect-designer, CFA Voysey (1857-1941).
This is a high quality item, exhibiting great skill and ingenuity of manufacture.
The triform base not only has the interlaced heart motif so loved by Voysey, it also uses the demon head motif from Voysey`s Demon wallpaper design. (For an example see CFA Voysey by Wendy Hitchmough Page 50).
The ball cappings were a standard Elsley (for whom Voysey designed) production feature.
There is a spun copper disc just above the base, again typically found on many Elsley lamps.
W Bainbridge Reynolds also made wrought iron gates with similar construction features to Voysey`s designs.
