A superb and rare oak Arts & Crafts stick stand designed by the great Scottish architect, Sir Robert Lorimer; c1900.
Approx 35" high, 30.25" width, 18" depth at base.
Of typical understated form, with superbly carved end support uprights by the Clow Brothers, of an angel, Chinese style lion, an eagle and a bull (or Ox); representing the four evangelists. Whytock & Reid or Scott Morton (either, the likely makers). Similar carvings can be found in Lorimer`s work/designs in private house commissions and indeed St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh.
