Rare Gimson Cotswold School 9 pce fireset

An incredibly rare and exceptional fine quality matching nine piece (!) Cotswold School set of fire implements by Norman Bucknell ; based on Ernest Gimson designs.  This was a specially commissioned set made for a client friend of his, a well known connoisseur tool collector, so excellent provenance as well; c1960`s/70`s. This comprehensive nine piece set comprises a highly decorative fire guard and bellows, brush, shovel, poker, fork, pincers and coal grip and of course a matching wall plate.
Norman Bucknell (1911-2006) was the last of the second generation of Costwold School Arts & Crafts designer-makers. His father Alfred was of course Ernest Gimson’s foreman/blacksmith, who amongst many other designs, made the fireplace at Pinbury Park in 1897. Norman was also at one stage apprenticed for six years to Ernest Gimson’s former foreman, Peter Waals, before rejoining his father at his smith in Waterlane, near Sapperton.
His metalwork designs can be found in many churches in Britain, The V&A Museum in London and of course both theLeicester Museums and the Cheltenham Art Gallery & Museum.
