Delightful and highly decorative early 20thC New Zealand/Maori Arts & Crafts/ Tribal Art beautifully carved wooden panel
with mother of pearl/abalone shell highlights.
Approx 42" wide, 11" high, 2" depth; heavy!
Carved with a charming motto; blessing the house and garden.
The panel also incorporates a carved Maori style intertwined serpent/Manaia; also highlighted with mother of pearl.
On the back is the carver`s (or owner`s) name, CW Chamberlain, HM Customs, Dunedin.
CW Chamberlain was the Collector of The Customs in Dunedin, New Zealand and also a member, and presided over the local Shipwreck Relief Society and a Commissioner of Crown Lands, amongst other posts.
The Toitu Otago Settlers Museum In Dunedin, New Zealand have in their collection, a couple of different carvings, donated by CW Chamberlain.
