Rare Archibald Knox Liberty wall clock

Rare Archibald Knox Liberty wall clock

Code: 10542

SOLD
Extremely rare Tudric pewter and abalone shell wall clock designed by Archibald Knox for Liberty & Co circa 1902-05.
Approx 10.25" wide and 3.25" deep. Very good provenance.
Illustrated on page 238 in the excellent book on Archibald Knox by Dr Stephen Martin, the worlds leading authority on Knox.
Please note THIS IS THE ACTUAL clock that was used for the said illustration. A letter of provenance and confirmation of such will be provided to the eventual buyer. As Dr Martin notes in his book, ...Knoxs interest in abstraction is also evident in his only known wall clock, a rounded triangular object similar in shape to the abalone plaques....and not unlike the shape and size of a human face. It is a powerful presence when hanging upon and projecting from the wall. A truly beautiful, timeless, abstract and modernist design, well ahead of its time.
